Costume Design and Sample clothing

Daniel Miller

Actor Headshot:

Dan's clothes are old and worn out. He keeps everything he gets as he doesn't have much. His outfits are mismatched, usually, made up of whatever is clean on the day. His t-shirts are usually plain, sometimes with a logo. The colour is faded or monochrome and all of his tops contain holes or rips. He has three pairs of jeans, two blue and one black pair, all of which have varying degrees of rips. His shoes are old trainers, dirty and breaking. He has one pair that are new and kept in pristine condition.

Sophie Jones

Actor headshot:

Sophie's clothes are basic but she dresses up with what she has, layering and matching colours.

Nick Davis

Actor headshot:

Nick is constantly wearing a suit, whether at work or not. The ones he owns are not fancy or expensive but are extremely well kept and tailored to him. He owns numerous cuffs and ties as well as a pair of Oxford dress shoes that he wears constantly.

Lights and Camera Movement Techniques

The type of lighting will be low-key as is common in drama films in order to create a dark and mysterious atmosphere to suit the theme of the film which is how one loses their soul.

In order to achieve this, a bright powerful light with a diffuser such as a softbox and a reflector will be needed for a key light.

Fill, Background and Hair lights will also be needed to completely light the scenes and make the subject stand out from the background but the overall image will contain a lot of shadow and contrast to infuse the film with an aesthetic that reflects the darkness of its story.

Low Key Lighting

High Key Lighting

A range of camera movement techniques will be used throughout the film in order to visually convey the feel and tone of a shot/scene.

Still/Unmoving shots will be used to create tension in a scene, for example, a character's reaction in a conversation, or on the other hand, to show that there is no tension and that the atmosphere is balanced.

Tracking will be used to emphasise and follow a character's movement and panning will bring focus to the subject/a new subject such as a new character entering a scene.

Handheld shots can be used to bring a more natural effect to a shot as there is a slight movement, which can help the audience to connect to the scene. Also, when handheld tracking, the shot can become more chaotic due to the shake of the camera which would be suitable in fast-paced scenes such as when Nick is chasing Dan and Sophie.
